About Newtown Mission

Newtown Mission is a group of people from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds and various ages.

Our community is relaxed, informal and held together by our desire to know God more deeply. Our hope is that together we may serve the communities of the Inner West of Sydney, care for the vulnerable and share the good news of Jesus. We are a congregation of the Uniting Church of Australia.

The main aspects of life at Newtown Mission are the Sunday Services (see below), Creative Arts, Community Outreach (known as our Drop-In Centre), Households and Small Groups. Newtown Mission also runs a 'Healing Rooms' Ministry which runs out of the Tempe Church on Thursday nights.

Our Vision Statement

Newtown Mission seeks to be: an open community committed to passionate worship of Jesus Christ, with sound biblical teaching and the transformation of lives through outreach, discipleship and compassionate care, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Click here for more info on 'what we believe'.

Sunday Services

Sunday Services are one of the main focal points of church life. They are held on Sundays at 9:30am and 6:00pm in the Chapel. A family service for Australian Tongans is held at 1pm at The Tempe Church. On the first Sunday of the month the morning service and the Tongan Fellowship combine at Newtown for a special bi-cultural worship service.

Newtown Mission services are generally informal, and usually involves a time of singing and reflection, open sharing time, and teaching from the Bible. Services are usually followed by morning tea/supper, with some of Newtown’s finest instant coffee.

We’d love to see you at one of our Sunday services.
