Sunday in Newtown

9.30am

We get together in the magnificent Chapel at 280 King St, underneath the Revelation Ceiling and with the beautiful light from the stained glass windows. Our meeting is generally informal, and usually involves a strong time of praise and prayer with singing, sharing time, and teaching from the Bible.

Children are welcome at Newtown Mission. There’s a Crèche & a program for school aged kids, which begins after a time of praise. We regularly have a song or talk that’s especially for the younger members of the congregation.

On the first Sunday of the month we get together with the Tongan Fellowship for a special bi-cultural worship celebration. We share Communion together as part of this combined gathering – children are welcomed to participate in Communion with a parent or carer. It’s also a time for enjoying wonderful singing from the Tongan choir.

Something we always do is offer a chance to receive prayer .. for healing, strength, the filling of the Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, to connect with Jesus or to respond to the sermon. God-Gatherings are usually followed by morning tea, with some of Newtown’s finest instant coffee on offer!

5PM – Mission Nights

Sunday nights have more space for times of praise and prayer, with a focus on enjoying time in God’s presence. That leads to praying for each other, with an openness to sharing words of encouragement and prophecy.

Our Bible messages focus on how to live as a Christian, with an emphasis on growing in understanding of who we are in Christ so that we can live differently.
